  Frequently Asked Questions

Mark Scharenbroich and Nice Bike Frequently Asked Questions

How do you pronounce your name?
Mark is the easy part, Scharenbroich is another matter.  To tell you the truth, we’re not even sure how to pronounce it.  “Sharon-brock” works or Shake-n-bake if that’s easier.  No matter how you pronounce, it’s okay with me.

Which education groups have you addressed?

Most of my requests come from state and national education groups, such as school board associations, teacher and administrator groups, and support staff associations.

I also speak at K-12 staff in-service programs.  I focus on the relationship pillar of Dr. Willard Daggett’s “Three Rs” application model (Rigor, Relevancy and Relationships).

I also address a limited number of state and national student leadership conferences, as well as student assemblies.

How are you different from other speakers?
There are a few things that make me different …

star bullet Experience: 30 years in the speaking profession, delivering presentations in more than 3,000 school districts.
star bullet Expertise: Having personally toured 3000+ schools across North America, I know what a great school looks and feels like and I share concrete ideas that make a difference.
star bullet Engagement: Through the use of humor, stories and messages that are relevant to the audience member — be it a 16-year-old student, a 20-year veteran educator or a 1st year school board member — my presentation hits home.
Where’s the best position to use you at our event?
Open your meeting with me to set the tone, establish the theme and get people connected from the very first moment. As your closing speaker, I’ll help to summarize the meeting and end it on a high note.

How long do you speak at an event?

That depends on the event.  Most keynote presentations run approximately 50-60 minutes. K-12 staff in-service events run 90 minutes and some times longer if we add a breakout.  School assemblies usually run 50-60 minutes.  I am flexible.  It depends on your objective and schedule.  Please consult with us before you decide on a final agenda.

What’s with the Boomba Hey?

Watch tmark Scharenbroich's big finishI began my career speaking in high school gymnasiums years ago.  Since my message to high school students was about being more engaged in their school experience, I ended the program with an interactive activity called Boomba Hey.  I divided the students in half with one side cheering “Boomba” and the other half “Hey.”  I would direct them in a fun chorus and we would end with them cheering out the name of their school.  Students always got involved in it. However, not only do students enjoy it, educators love it too.  It sounds lame, but it works.  Every show needs a Big Finish!  The fun part is to run into students who heard me speak 20 years ago and ask, “Are you the Boomba Hey guy?”
What do the initials CSP and CPAE after your name mean?
Are you a part-time accountant?

NSA Credential LogosNo, math isn’t my forte. I freaked out on flash cards in grade school, but I did enjoy the speech contests.

The National Speakers Association’s Hall of Fame awards its CPAE (Council of Peers Award of Excellence) to members who have been recognized by their peers for excellence in the speaking profession.  Fewer than 150 active members are Hall of Fame inductees. I have also earned the NSA Certified Speaking Professional/CSP designation that is earned by less than 10% of speakers in the association.
